Although this particular welder has TIG welding capabilities, its real strength is its use as a stick welder. It offers a dual voltage design, 140 amps at 240v or 85 amps at 120v, and a minimum of 6 feet of cable length for the work clamp and cable. The Everlast PowerArc 140 Stick Welder also allows you to easily add extra lengths if need be.

With the added TIG capabilities, this welder is a little heavier than other stick welders. It’s still only 25 pounds, however, so it isn’t going to be any sort of portability burden for the projects that you’re trying to complete.

What to Expect with the Everlast PowerArc 140

  • We found that the best rods to use with this particular welder are the 3/32s. Although it can use other rods, the outcomes are far more stable and consistent with that particular size. The only problem is that out of the box, it only has collets up to 2mm, so the 3/32s don’t actually work. It’s worth the upgrade.
  • We were able to weld 3/8-inch metals with 6011 rods with a 120v input with relative ease. With a little patience, you could probably go up to ¼-inch and be able to do a single pass.
  • The plastic case is pretty much worthless. It bends in shape whenever it has an environment that is warmer than room temperature. We wouldn’t even recommend using it for storage. The plastic hinges even pop out when it is in the right shape and putting the case back together takes more time than some welds.
  • This is more of a light duty machine, though its duty cycle is more in the mid-range when using a 240v input. On heavier projects, we found that the welder does have a tendency to heat up just a bit, even within the duty cycle.

On a side note, if you are using the TIG function with this welder, it is important to note that there isn’t a foot pedal control that comes with this welder. You’ll want to check on the accuracy of your gauges on a regular basis so you’re not spending more on the argon gas you need to complete your project.

Positioning is pretty easy to do with this welder thanks to its overall design. Overhead welding wasn’t an issue at all. The hands got a little warm in the gloves during an enclosed space weld, but that was the only real issue of note when using this Everlast equipment.

Our Bottom Line: The Everlast PowerArc 140 Stick Welder is a nice little welder that gives you some added versatility with some TIG functions. It is able to lay down a good bead with consistency. It’s a bit of an inconvenience to deal with the collets for the larger rods, but the added quality to your work is worth the headache. Considering the price and what the welder can do, it should definitely be a top contender for your next equipment purchase.
