There are some TIG welders that can get the job done, but struggle when it comes to precision. There are other welders in this category that are fantastic in their consistency, but require multiple passes in order to complete a project. The Everlast PowerTIG 250EX tells a different story.

This is an incredibly lightweight and portable TIG welder. Featuring lGBT Infineon Modules, you can achieve a ½ weld on a single pass. It also offers a 5-year warranty on parts and labor.

Here are some of our key findings from using this welder.

  • The arc is relatively smooth and very stable. You’re able to produce a good puddle with it consistently.
  • There are adjustable weld parameters for 2t and 4t operation. When combined with the pulse function, your weld quality is able to improve without the need for extra heat.
  • The digital readout is accurate when it comes to the amperage controls. The controls are also color-coded, which makes it easier to use the welder when you’ve got your mask or helmet down.

This welder is rated to work with 10,000-watt generators. We didn’t test this function, but had no problem with is hooked into our local power 240-volt outlet. It comes setup for a single phase, with wiring available for 3-phase.

The duty cycle for this TIG welder is excellent. It’s an inverter-type welder with a 60% duty cycle at 250 amps. Although you can get a kick-out on a long and continuous weld from time to time, for the most part, you’ll be able to work until your job is finished with this welder without much downtime at all.

Tips for Using the Everlast PowerTIG 250EX

The foot pedal with this particular TIG model is difficult to use until you get used to the low-amp output of the welder. It is a stable pedal and doesn’t try to walk away on you, but the lower amps are somewhat sporadic in terms of arc stability. Upgrading the pedal could resolve this issue, but may not be something that everyone wants to do.

It only comes with a wet torch out of the box, so you’ll either need to purchase a water cooler with this welder or spring for a dry torch to use it right away. Don’t try to use the welder without either item as it could damage the unit and that would potentially void your warranty.

Our Bottom Line: Although you might not be able to use the welder straight from the box in some instances, the Everlast PowerTIG 250EX is incredibly consistent. Once you get the hang of the low-amp arc, you’ll find it to be an incredibly versatile welder that can tackle a wide variety of tasks. It’s a bit of an investment for sure, but it also gets the job done. We loved using it and believe you will as well.
